BE PART OF THE CHANGE, Let's create a brighter future together.
At the Youth Resource Center, we recognize the urgency of providing a lifeline to youth in crisis. Located in the same building, we stand as a unified sanctuary for these young individuals, offering solace and the resources they need ongoing support heal, and build confidence.
It is a specialized facility that provides immediate assessment and short-term treatment for children ages 18 and under, who are experiencing a mental or emotional health crisis with suicidal risks.
Our primary objective is to offer intervention and stabilization services aimed at de-escalating mental health crises and ensuring the safety of the child. Our secondary goal is to provide a more comfortable and inviting alternative to hospitalization for our youth, while also alleviating the burden on local law enforcement and working towards decriminalizing mental health issues. The Center does not operate as a residential facility; instead, it serves as a short-term, secure space for young individuals to undergo assessment and receive immediate support during their time of need.
Our Crisis Triage Unit follows a 'Recliner Model,' also known as the 'Living Room' program. In this model, we use recliner chairs, which also function as massage chairs, as a central feature in our design. These chairs create a comforting environment, departing from the traditional hospital bed setup. Throughout the day, our youth have access to these chairs under the supervision of a qualified healthcare team, including a Registered Nurse, Clinical Technicians, Social Service Worker, and a Clinical Psychologist, ensuring continuous adult oversight.
This inviting and relaxed atmosphere is designed to foster a sense of calm and reduce stress and anxiety for youth in emotional distress. Research has consistently shown that nurturing surroundings can lead to faster recovery times for patients in crisis. By providing a space where youth can recuperate more swiftly from their crisis, we aim to minimize disruptions to their home lives, education, and overall confidence.
When a youth arrives at our center, they undergo an assessment to determine the nature and severity of their crisis, enabling us to plan the next steps. During their stay, our dedicated staff initiates the development of a tailored program and plan for the youth's care. It's important to note that no youth is permitted to leave without a carefully devised plan in place, and a qualified care professional to accompany them to their next destination
Participation in this program is completely voluntary, underscoring our commitment to respecting the autonomy and choices of the youth and their families. The Youth Crisis Triage Unit provides a wide range of services within a safe and nurturing environment, encompassing assessment, individual or group counseling, daytime monitoring and supervision, family engagement, and education to facilitate long-term support for the youth. When necessary, we also offer coordination for longer-term or more immediate treatment options
Our center is currently in the final stages of development, and we're in the process of finalizing partnerships and arrangements to ensure the best care for our patients. To ensure a smooth and effective launch, we are initially operating with limited hours and accommodate a select number of patients as we fine-tune our program systems and conduct thorough staff training. This measured approach ensures that when we officially open our doors to a wider audience, we'll be fully prepared to deliver the highest quality care. Your support and patience during this exciting phase are greatly appreciated.
